Step up or step down ring for lens filters?
-
I have three lenses-72, 67 and 52mm. I have several filters for each lens--all different. I'd like to be able to use the filters on all of the lenses. I'm thinking I need step down rings to use the smaller filters on the larger lenses. Am I correct? For example, would I need a 72-52mm SDR to use the 52mm filters on the 72mm lens? I have a step up ring to use my 67mm filters on the 72mm lens. Just not sure since I'm somewhat new at photography.

Answer:
If you use a step up ring to put a 52mm dia on the 72mm dia lens then you are going to get vignetting, possibly even black corners to your images.
