Where could i find a GOOD waterproof/underwater camera?

Where can I find a 35 mm camera with a f-stop shutter?

  • I am going into an intro to photography class soon & I am required to have a 35-mm with a f-stop shutter. I have asked many and i have recieved many suggestions but i still dont know what camera to buy exactly! the latest one that I have been suggested to is the Pentax K1000 so I looked up the camera on Best Buy & I found one for a good price but I have one itsy bitsy problem...I have no IDEA if this is the camera that is 35-mm with a f-stop shutter, because I can not find a specific camera that says those exact words to fit the description of what I need. The one I found is PENTAX - Factory-Refurbished K100D 6.3-Megapixel DSLR Camera - Black, is this the type of camera that would be good for me to start out with? If you know the exact or close to exact camera i should by I would be very greatful!!!! I have been looking forever & I need to find it soon before the class starts.

Firstly, no such thing as as f stop shutter. F stop is a measure of the aperture (hole in the lens) and shutter refers to the shutter speed across the film plane. What your tutor is probably wanting is a camera with full manual control of f stop and shutter speed (two separate things). Secondly, 35mm refers to a FILM camera NOT digital, so don't buy anything described as a DSLR or with megapixels - this will be digital NOT film. The Pentax K100D is a digital camera & will not be suitable. The Pentax K1000 is a fully manual, 35mm film camera, so will be fine. Other cameras you might want to consider are the Canon AE-1, Olympus OM2, Nikon FM2 - all would be suitable for your course.

What on earth is an f-stop shutter? An intro to photography class tends to require a camera that can do manual and has a meter. The K1`000 does, just like every other DSLR from that era. Then there's suddenly a k100, a digital camera several times more expensive and alltogher a different camera. Check if you need a film camera or if it can be digital. Then work from there.

F-stop AND shutter. F-stops are on the lens. Any old mechanical film camera with a silver top will use lenses that have f-stops or aperture control. The shutter speed control is found on the camera itself. When you buy the K1000, make sure it comes with a lens. One with a 50mm lens would be great. Do not get the K100d. That is a digital SLR camera. Your instructor specified a 35mm film SLR. The Pentax K1000 is exactly that.

A 35mm camera is a FILM camera, NOT a digital camera. You can buy 35mm SLR cameras on ebay for about $50-$100.

First, the Pentax K100D is a digital camera and unsuitable for your class. Your class requires a 35mm film camera like a Pentax K1000 or Minolta SRT-202 or Canon FTb or Olympus OM-1. You can look on eBay or one of these sites: http://www.bhphotovideo.com http://www.adorama.com http://www.keh.com Whatever camera you buy you'll definitely need the Owner's Manual for it. Your best place to find it will be ebay or this site: http://www.butkus.org. Or you can do your own on-line search and find additional sources. Good luck with your class.
