I'm come from a Canon background, so my answer will be based around canon cameras. I would recommend the Canon 7d. It has a high burst rate (shutter thing, a lot of pictures at once) The other models are either more expensive, or extremely slow burst rate. Canon 550d 3fps. Canon 5d MK2 (more expensive) additional advantage is that hte Canon 7d has a very rugged body, so it can take some abuse from the harse realities of the skate park. the 7d has an advance sensor that works well in low light situations. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPgImFwO4wc the 7d also takes amazing videos. I personally know many wedding videographers who rely on this camera day in and day out. Lens - i'm a big fan of the 50mm f/1.8 (however to use this lens effective, you really need to get close to the subject. and trust the skater to not fly into your face. - if you need to stand a little further back 70-200mm f/2.8 is the insdustry work horse. - 75-300mm is a cheaper alternative that works quite well if there is enough light. - a wide angle like a 10-22 might be nice for wide dynamic shots. edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rY5-_MM2F7A&feature=related you may also want to consider getting one of these to fix that shaky hand that typically holds those cameras... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liMbw1YzIpc&feature=related http://www.glidecam.com/products.php
