Camera help... please, please help! I need to know if I should purchase this camera??

The XTI is a great entry-level DSLR. If you are photographing models you want your lighting to be good...I'd head over to strobist.com and learn some strobe-based lighting basics.

This should work for you, I have the exact camera. All you have to do for taking lightning picture is put it in bulb-mode and use remote control cable-release.

I would definately buy it. It is a very good camera. I would also buy an external flash 430EX CANON and an extra lens, 28-135EF USM IS CANON. I know the camera has a build-in pop up flash but for better results and power you would need an extra external flash. It depends on how much you are willing to spend. The list of what need to buy is long or short depends on your wallet. I would buy from this site if you prefer buying online. Good luck.
