What type of digital camera should I buy?

  • I am going to Central America for a 3 month back pack trip and need to buy a digital camera. I don't know what to look for but I was thinking one of the new touch screens would be fun but I don't know if practical since I will be traveling everywhere. I don't want to spend more than $300. Hope someone has some ideas.

    I wouldn't go with an SLR. I would go fo a digi. Much smaller and easier to use since you're going to be on the go. Also holds I think up to 2 gigs(SD cards). Another thing is you can get a really nice small one with tons of features on it for way less than $300.00 Personally I wouldn't spend that much myself. I would just get it free at prizevolcano.com

i love my Casio Exilim. i was starting on a two week driving tour of the west when my other camera crapped out. i stopped in a Walmart and bought this camera at a reasonable price and then bought a memory card that would hold about 700 pictures. it was an easy camera to learn to use and i took some great pictures on that trip. since then i've learned a lot more about the extra features and my pictures get better and better. last time i was 4 wheeling in the woods, i lost it...when i went back looking for it, i found it...it had fallen out of my pocket and i had run over it...i felt like crying because i had gotten so attached to it. guess what? it worked just fine!!! i can recommend this one, it has performed well for me for over two years now. enjoy your trip...i am envious of your adventure.

I have a canon powershot A510 - I think it is one of the cheapest Canon cameras and I have taken it around the world with me and it was brilliant. I didnt want a more expensive camera in case it was lost or stolen.. so this was perfect for me :)
