Need to buy a Camera .. Please help!!?

  • Hi, I am planning to buy a new Semi SLR kinda Camera ...i already have a standard type of digi cam but i am looking for more features ... I am a beginner and have off late started traveling a lot ... generally i would use the camera to click snaps of my road trips , jungle safari , night wildlife etc ... now the problem is that i do not want to buy any so called beginners camera as i do not want to buy another camera in at least next 2 years I checked out Sony DSC H -50 and liked it for its simple function and light weight ..however many people have advised me to buy a Canon ...now i am totally confused .. Need expert advise on this , 1)what should be the features i should look for while buying a camera 2) Is Sony DSC- h 50 good ? 3) i think SLR is pretty tedious with so many lenses and weight ... do you think buying Semi SLR is a good decision ? 4) I am planning to spend around $500 - 800 , any camera which you would like to recommend ? 5) i tried to read many reviews on net but ffranklynothing made much sense to me as i am very new to this ... 6) Is it the right time to buy a camera or should i wait for post christmas sale ? any recommended website ? Sorry for posting a long list of questions , would appreciate your ddetailedresponse .. Thanks .. have a great day !!

  • Answer:

An ultra zoom like the Sony DSC H-50 will not shoot as fast or as crisp as an SLR. The other thing is point-and-shoot cameras are replaced nearly every year. If you want to have quality & longevity an SLR is the best bet. Sony even released some great competitors to Canon & Nikon. While you may have to replace an SLR body, good lenses will last you decades if taken care of. $500-$800 can get you started with a great entry level SLR from any line, and you may even be able to pick up a second lens like a 55-200 telephoto with an entry level SLR!

The Sony DSC-H50 is a digital super zoom point and shoot. No doubt a very good camera. But for between $500 and $800 as you say you may spend why aren't you looking at DSLRS. There's value in entry level Canon digital SLRS and probably some Nikons. People at Yahoo Answers can help you further. PS - I would waste 10 points and post same question again this evening, I'll highlight it again; just so you'd get more replys.
