You're shooting a wedding in only two weeks? Sorry to say this, but you shouldn't. If you're asking me why, it's because you don't have enough experience or knowledge yet. My guess is that all you'll do at the wedding is point your camera at the subject and then push the shutter button (i.e. point and shoot). So, bottom line, if you can get out of shooting the wedding, do it - you're just not ready.. Those "professional" cameras with long lenses are called DSLRs. Entry level ones start at about $500 usually, although real "professional" ones cost a few thousand dollars and more. But entry-level is probably what you need to start out, but I can't guarantee that the camera alone would do a good job for a wedding. My suggestions: Canon Rebel XS, Nikon D3000, Sony Alpha a230, Pentax K-x. Look into these those cameras. Narrow it down to the ones with the specs you want. Then head over to a camera/electronic store and try out the remaining choices. Whichever one fits in your hands more comfortably and is easier for you to navigate through is the "best" camera for you. Now that we have the camera body covered, let's talk about lenses. For weddings, you NEED fast lenses. In other words, lenses with large max apertures. The reason why is because most of the time, using an external flash at weddings are distracting and prohibited. There are a few different types of lenses you'd need. However, the cost really adds up, so be prepared for that. Here are some lenses you'd want: - Fast prime. Probably a mid-telephoto, 50mm, 85mm , etc. These are usually f/1.8 or faster - Wide-angle lens. For when you need wide coverage. - General purpose zoom. Probably needs to be f/2.8 - Telephoto lens. 70-200mm lenses are especially handy, FYI... And these probably should be f/2.8 as well or faster. You don't have to get those exact types of lenses because the lenses you buy really boil down to your shooting style. However, two weeks is barely any time to figure out that shooting style. Next time, know what you're getting into before you get into it!

$150 can't even get you a professional lens, let alone any decent lens. You can get a good filter, or a bag, for a camera. Your budget for a professional camera has to be at least $6,000 or so. This includes a "cheap" full frame Nikon or a Canon and at least two f 2.8 lenses. Don't take this wrongly--why in the world did you get signed for a wedding and exepct to get a new camera two weeks before the big date. Even if you had that new camera today--how are you going to get used to it when you have only two weeks? No matter. Good luck. Do show us the photos when you are done.

Even if you bought the best DSLR you are obviously clueless about photography, so would be unable to use it. What on earth made you think you could shoot a wedding with a couple of compact cameras??? If I were you (and if you can) I would get out of this now, before you make a complete hash of it & get sued by the bride & groom. Just curious but was the bride actually stupid enough to book you without seeing a portfolio of your work? OK - here's the equipment you'll need - TWO DSLR bodies (one as a backup), fast prime or zoom lenses (such as 50mm f1.4, 85mm f1.8, 24-70mm f2.8, 70-200mm f2.8), several memory cards (as backup), couple of off camera flashes, (with light modifiers if necessary) & reflectors. And more importantly knowledge of how it all works, especially lighting & exposure (you can't rely on AUTO modes) Edit: Sorry but if your avatar pic is an example of your work its very poor quality (it doesn't appear to be in focus)

Well if you still want to try and shoot your friends wedding ( after all the naysayers have put their words in) this is what I would recommend. If you decided to get a DSLR, put it into one of the many auto modes it has and just keep shooting everything until you feel comfortable with it. I would recommend a zoom but not a particularly long one. At the wedding itself, take test shots continually so as you can properly judge the amount of light. You do not want under exposed images. Find someone very talented at photoshop to review your shots and edit them for you. While not everything can be fixed in photoshop, the glaring mistakes can at least be hidden. You may want to consider using a very high end compact camera like the Canon G11 or Panasonic LX3. They can produce very high quality images but are more limited in ability than a DSLR. I hate to be negative, but I think you may have made a mistake in agreeing to do this. If the pictures are not what the bride expects, she will be very, very, very angry.

$150 isn't even enough to get you a decent point and shoot, let alone one of those "more professional cameras with big long lenses". Granted, it's not all about the equipment, but unless the wedding takes part exclusively outdoors, expect blurry pictures indoors with any camera you buy for $150.
