    The problem isn't in the car, it is in the people. First of all, I would like to think I have a right to buy my own car and use it as I want. Second, I am 18 and have been driving for 2 years. I've never been in an accident that has been my fault. I've seen hundreds of little high school girls with their pretty little text phones and new cars with crash-ready bumpers waiting for a sudden car crash. Third, no one wants to buy the VW New Beetle or the Ford Fiesta. They are fuel efficient. Everyone wants the Chevy Suburban and Ford Mustangs. Lastly, Japan sells a lot more cars per person than the US. The reason our cars suck is because no one is buying. Newer cars answer current issues (fuel efficiency, crash protection, easier driving)

not everyone lives/works close by. buses dont work for all. i dont work in a cubicle, others like me have to be here today, there tomorrow, so we need independant transport. can't walk or ride bicycle 50-75 miles one way, rain, snow etc. sorry about some peoples bad driving skills. so what other options are there? as far as pollution, no one ever mentions the millions of gallons of fuel jets/airplanes burn every day. asfar asthe cost, my salary more than covers that. energy waste? do not get me started on that.
