Vauxhall vectra Diesel fault?

  • vauxall vectra 20l dti diesel.202 model ecotec, the engine management light comes on when the the engine reaches its normal temp* and the car lack's power. when ticking over 8.000 rev's it sounds as if it was misfiring.. rev to 10.000 and the engine runs smooth. I leave it to cool, and it then runs perfectly till again it reaches its normal running temp* probable causes please, and remedy.. thank you. Regards Bill

  • Answer:

well first off Bill you want a couple of '0' of them tick over revs...lol.. my moneys on a sensor...it will be a temp sensor lieing to the ecu..others may be able to point you to the right one...failing that got to asmall garage and ask them to check for and ''fault codes'' this should tell you the exact one...simply swap over and hope for the best as me,personally,i dont put much faith in code readers.

A Handy hint: If The Mass Air Flow Meter Is faulty, Rev the car to between 2000 rpm and 2500 rpm hold it at this for at least 10 seconds you will see the Engine management lamp lighting up or flicking on and off as it detecting a low air flow reading. Also check the Intercooler for damage or a split charge air hose. I had a troublesome vectra a year ago that had a tiny stone hole in the inter-cooler which was releasing vac pressure the hotter the engine the worse it got especially under load up hills. I would remove and inspect the intercooler and charge air hoses

Get a fault code reader on it asap at a local garage, though the readers can be bought on internet auction sites at a fair price. The 2.0 diesels were (and still) are notorious for fuel pump problems. If the pump goes down you're looking at about a £1,000 to replace and they're a sealed unit too so no chance of a repair and precious little chance of finding a second hand one. If you find it's a pump fault then take it to the car auctions and get rid whilst it's still running.

sounds like theirs a good chance its the egr valve sticking try cleaning it out then adding some forte diesel injector cleaner too the fuel tank but for a defonate answer youll need too have a diagnostic check done too see what fault codes are logged in the ecu
