What are the most differences ( advantages and disadvantages) between diesel and petrol engines?

a diesel ignites the fuel by pressure, a gasoline engine ignites the fuel by a spark. a diesel cost more because it is a bit more complicated. they are usually heavier built. the fuel injection pump is more expensive than a carburetor. historically, diesel fuel cost less per gallon than gasoline. a diesel operates a lower RPM's . a gasoline has quicker acceleration. a gasoline is easier to start in cold weather. when of equal size and weight, a gasoline engine has more power than a diesel. a diesel is much more durable and will last a lot longer than a gasoline. diesels can range in size from very small, like lawnmower engine size up to huge for ships. there are all different sizes in between. the largest gasoline engines will fit under the hood of a big car or pickup truck. they are not used on huge construction equiptment or to power ships.

It makes all the more sense to get a diesel. Europe has caught on to the diesel trend and knows the facts. If you want alot of power and great mileage, get a diesel. If you want somthing that drives and dont care about mileage, get a gasoline(petrol engine).
