When you become a GM. how long do you train for??

Does a a Porsche Technician make more than a GM or Toyota Tech?

  • Am going back to school in Jan. To become a Technician. Am either going to my Local Community College or UTI because I wanna get into the Porsche program which I hear is really hard, but I hear if you make it Thur it, is worth it, I've talk to a lot of former students that went to UTI they said save your money and go to your local Community College and get a degree. Also I've called a local shop around hear that works on Porsche and Ferrari cars the Technician their said go to UTI for one 1 year than apply at a Dealer and let them train me. I've called the dealer they said go to UTI and try and get into the Porsche program. The Local college is sponsored by Gm so I wouldn't mind working for them either. What should I do? Give some good advice.

    There are a lot more Fords and Chevrolets then there are Porsche's. So while the school may be exclusive, work will be harder to find. They don't pay shop mechanics to stand around an look pretty, no work and you go home.

Choose another profession this on is crap. I been working for mercedes and it is not a ll what its cracked up to be..... and the answer to your question is porsche... they make a pretty penny but the program isn't going to be easy, that's even if you get accepted... I worked for N.Y porsche dealer for almost 4 years and these cars are made like crap... When you fix one thing something else breakes. When you fix that something else knocks... A car comes in for breaks and oil change, before you know it you change rotors, breaks, lines, a clutch, oil distributor and the whole front end... Stay with gm only because if you lose your job with porsche all you know is porsche but with gm your working on all different kind of cars and you don't really have to work on Manuel trannys...
