How much does it cost to buy an Alfa Romeo?

Which car would be the best to buy. Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0 or Fiat Coupe 2.0 non turbo?

  • I am considering buying one of these cars. Both cars have low mileage 50,000. The Alfa is 1999 and the Coupe is 1998. Which one do you think I should go for

The Alfa Romeo of course - there is a world of difference of quality between Fiat and Alfa.

The cars are very much of a muchness, both italian, both lovely handling and gorgeous to look at. The Fiat is actually the much more reliable of the two though. Cambelt change on a non turbo is £300, contact me if you need the link for they guy who does them. Alfa GTV spares are hugely expensive for some reason (go find the price of a headlight and prepare to sit down). the 2 litre 20 valve engine is based on the 16 valve unit, and is proven to be pretty reliable. The Fiat Coupe Turbo is not much more, and offers a huge performance jump, but that said, it's more expensive, particularly with it's penchant for front tyres and fuel. Theres a lot of talk about busted engines in fiats due to the cambelt, thats becuase idiots change the belts but skimp on the tensioner, and it's normally the tensioner that fails. Keep it all serviced properly and te 20v unit is very reliable. Both cars suffer from irritating electrical glitches, some more than others. My coupe was fine, my friends coupe was a nightmare, so build quality really does vary. The Fiat out handles the Alfa too, so by now you may have guessed im going to say, "buy the fiat". that said, both cars are delicious, but need to be loved to keep in good working order.
