How do you test water?

How to test a raditor and also how to replace a water pump on a 2000 hyundai elantra gls?

  • I have a 2000 elantra gls. (I replaced the thermostat already) I will fill it up with coolant and then after a day or two of driving the car will start to steam and boil out into the overflow and overheat. Then when i go to fill the radiator and it will only take a little bit of coolant. could this be a clogged radiator? or would it be a water pump? And how do you test to see if the radiator is clogged or if the water pump is bad. If you think it is neither. what else could it be. If it is the water pump does anyone know step by step to remove it. I am use to my truck. Will i have to remove the timing belt?

  • Answer:

For the radiator, get a IR thermometer and check the temperature of the radiator input and output. The difference should be at least 20 degrees to be working right.
