How reliable is a supercharged s2000?

Rx8, miata, or s2000?

  • lookin into buying one of these 3 cars from a used car dealership which car's the overall best for comfort, performance, handling, reliability? i've found reviews about each stating how well each handles and how well they all perform but i've heard reliability issues with the rx8, it having to use premium gas and problems with the rotary engine???? i've heard miata drives bumpy on the highway??? (that would be so damn annoying)) s2000, i just don't know much about this car...but i know it's a honda so it's reliable, i don't know about comfort and i've never driven it but i hear performance is excellent please give me informative feedbacks(i'l give informative feedbacks on your answers too), thanks

I've owned a 2000 Honda S2000 for the last year and a half, I will have it for the rest of my life. It is an AWESOME car! I have a friend who owns an RX8; it's had some issues, the engine got hydrolocked and that was a big mess. They handle well, but not as well as the S2k. NOTHING handles better than the S2k, this side of a hundred thousand bucks or a Lotus Elise. The S2000 gets *tons* of attention - I've had mine in LA, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle at varying points and it gets looks everywhere, gets tons of compliments. My friend who has a Porsche Cayman S said that people like my car more than his! Whether you pull up at a light, in the drive of a fancy hotel, or at the supermarket, the car gets you respect. The performance is great; the 9k RPM redline is surreal, and the handling is phenomenal and sublime: you point the wheel where you wanna go, and it goes - no fuss, no muss. I used to take it out Highway 1 from San Francisco down to Half Moon Bay every weekend with my girlfriend and put the top down... it ate the turns like candy and put a huge smile on my face. It's been VERY reliable and it's pretty good on gas; I get about 27mpg on the freeway. You do have to use premium. Always. No questions asked. But you have to use premium on all *real* cars anyway. The longest I've driven the car was up the 5 from San Francisco to Seattle, and it wasn't bad at all. The seats are sports seats so they are very supportive; not like a barca lounger like you get in Caddys and Lexus', but very comfortable. Because the redline is so high, it is a bit noisier than a lot of other cars on the freeway, but that's why I put the stereo up. The cons with the car... -while it's comfy, it's made for shorter people. I'm 6'2, and I just barely fit in. My eyes are at level with the top of the windshield so at lights, I have to duck down (or look above it if the top is down), and though I've been told I look "good" in it, whenever I see an S2000 with a shorter or average-height guy driving, it looks 100% right - when I'm in it, it makes me look like a giant, or at least like I'm driving a go-cart. I don't really care about that though, it's always the best looking car on the block anyway. -The stock stereo is, unequivocally, the ABSOLUTE WORST STOCK STEREO PUT IN A CAR IN THE LAST FIFTEEN YEARS. It is absolute CRAP. I'm not a big stereo type, I just like to be able to hear my tunes... the stock stereo is two speakers only, and the deck has a weak amp. I replaced it with a Sony deck that's way better and a pair of Fosgate speakers in the doors, and then got custom panels for behind the seats and put another two identical speakers in. 100% better. There are controls to the left of the wheel for the stereo, and there is a company that makes a kit that allows you to program all those buttons for a Sony, Pioneer, or Panasonic deck. I got it all installed professionally, and it all set me back about $350 altogether. -Stock wheels aren't ugly, but they're boring. I traded up to a set of 17's, black with a polished lip (looks smashing since mine is Silverstone with a black top), cost about $650 installed (ebay special). -If you get one that has the plastic window and not the glass, expect to pay, at some point in the near future, to get it replaced - it seems like many of them (mine included) are starting to wear out at this point. It's not the whole top, it's just the seam where the bottom of the plastic is joined to the cloth. When you do get it fixed, just get the glass window instead (it costs about $1000-1200 installed). Or better yet, just get one with the glass already in it. Hope that helps and if I can answer anymore questions personally, PM me!

The S2000 would be your best bet. Another thing is that all 3 of these cars REQUIRE premium gas. The miata in base form is very underpowered and not as reliable as the S2000, and the RX8 is one of those cars that you either love or hate, the rotary is a deent motor making 248 hp from 1.3 liters, but if something does happen it will cost a fortune due to the uniqueness of it and the dealer is about the only place to service it. I have driven all 3 of these cars and currently own a 2001 S2000 with a Greddy turbo kit. The comfortability is quite good for a 2 seat convertible and it handles awesome.

honda 2000 you best option , rx8 has a lot of starting problems, miata engine love to make valve noise.

Performance-Honda S2000 Handling-all of them are some of the best handling cars. It is hard to say. The S2000 and RX-8 both use premium gas and the RX-8 only has reliability issues because no one knows how to take care of a rotary engine. Comfort-Mazda RX-8 Reliability-Honda is always best.

Your right about the Rx8. There actually fairly reliable cars, but when things do break, you have to bring it to a dealership (stealership as i call them) as most shops do not work on rotary engines. As far as the other two go, the S2000 is a honda, but it is not as reliable as say a civic from what i hear. My uncle has an old miata, runs and looks beautiful. If you have the money, i would look into a Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky. But they are fairly expensive in relation to other used cars.

obviously rx8 over a miata...they are different. the rx8 is way coooler looking, faster and larger than the miata, which matters to me because i'm 6'2. rx8 to a s2000 is another story...s2000 looks more like a sports car than the rx8 and has better performance but the s2000 is totally outdated. i would go with the rx8
