How to open a jammed civic hood?

How can I get my car hood to pop open. It seems to be jammed?

  • I pulled my hood release lever and the hood wont open. doesn't seem like the cord is broken or loose or anything. i need to get some power steering fluid in my car cause i was told it was low when i got my oil change, but didn't have the extra money at that time to have the mechanic put some in. that oil change was the last time the hood was open and it seems the mechanic slammed it too hard or something...its kind of sunk, just a bit, on one side and raised on the other....i don't know what to do. i don't have a lot of money for a body shop to fix it and i cant get under my car to try pulling on the release from there cause of grill of my car.....this sux.....

  • Answer:

Step 1: wait for the engine to cool down a bit if it is hot to prevent you from possibly touching hot parts. Step 2: Pull the hood lever inside the car. Step 3: Feel around under the hood towards the middle to pull another lever thing once you push this then at same time pull hood up. If this doesn't work then there is in fact a problem with your hood due to being shut too hard. Really a hood should not be slammed. It should be raised about 3 feet and then let go and let gravity give it speed to shut. (making sure to get fingers/hands out of the way once it is coming down). If it is damaged I can't really tell you how to fix it since I can't see the damage.

try using a crow bar and wedging it in the hood and forcing it open. if that doesn't work then take it to a mechanic and have them look at it.

try to spray wd40 or other spray can oil onto the pin that holds the hood in place. some cans have a straw nozzle which will make it easier. get someone to hold the lever in the open position while you push down then pull up on the hood.
