How can I make my car greener to avoid this possible tax hike?
-
My car currently falls under the band C in the UK but with the new catogries we are now looking at it possibly being a band f. My little 02 reg Citroen Saxo has a little 1.1i engine and does quite a few miles to the gallon. Aquarding to the stats it gives out 145 of co2 and with this new tax law the price will go up in tax. I think this is absolutly rediculas seriously. How unfair is this government? But apparently if my car had slightly less co2 the price of tax would be more than halved. So my point is, becasue my car is vertually on the border is there a way of getting it to produce less co2 to avoid the possible hike and pay less? Even though it may go up by just £6 it is still annoying and unfair becasue I would have to pay higher tax on a car i bought a few weeks ago that is already a low emitions car and cheap to run. Thank you for your time

You will not be able to alter the tax band of your car, all cars are tested and allocated an emmissions level before being put onto the UK market and that is the emmissions level stays for every car of that model. Aftermarket changes can not change the tax band.

There is no other way,if there was everyone would being doing it and the Dictatorship in Westminister would not be able to screw more. I have a diesel and I notice that petrol is appro 14pence cheaper but if everyone changed to petrol, guess what the petrol woud go sky

It wouldn't matter even if you could make it greener, the government bases the tax on the carbon emissions for your make and model. They will not take into account individual cars as that would make the tax system completely unworkable.

It is not based on an individual car, just what the Government figures class the car as throwing out... Your upset is not so understandable, when you tell me this is all over 6 pounds? That is just about a gallon of fuel now!
Please punctuate properly, folks
I think you're being a bit silly over £6 here - there are many drivers facing a £200 per annum increase in road tax! As above, if your car does 50 mpg average, you only need to do one mile per week less to break even.

Just dont drive it. You could drive less aggresively by not accelerating as hard. Emmisions must be taxed because we need to stop destroying our atmostspere. The cost of cleaning up is higher than the cost of not making a mess.

If you're that worried you should sell it and take the bus. That gets you a 100% reduction in the tax!

can't answer the qu. However £6 is about 2 p a day so keep that in mind especially as you seem to really like your car!
