Will the GM bailout work?
-
Do you think the bailout of GM and Chrysler will work? Are you planning on purchasing a GM or Chrysler in 2009?

Answer:
As far as buying one of those cars, well, even if they weren't in trouble I wouldn't buy an American car. Will the bailout work. I wish I could be more positive, but there are too many people like me who just don't trust US cars anymore. I would buy a Honda that was built in the US. I like that the Murano is built here. But, we are at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to cars. Even in India they are doing better than us as they have taken over cars that Ford couldn't deal with and was losing money on. Personally I think the bailout is a waste of money. Better someone in Europe take over and get the cars back to where they should be, but keep the building here and keep the workers employed.

No it won't. The spending is excessive, the company has too much debt and the union is out of control. I hope GM dies. Let the market take care of the competitors. GM doesn't want to compete. No, I don't buy GM anymore. Their shoddy products let me down too many times.

I doubt it will work.. Most Americans will still buy Japanese, which allow them to have their cars twice as long and give them half as much trouble. The only car I can see me buying from America is the Volt... I will never buy a Chrysler/Dodge product..

For every other car manufacturers hope, let's hope so. If those big giants go down then it only gets worse from there. I'll be sticking with my Ford and if I buy another car I'll be buying another Ford in 2009. They are doing just fine

No plans on buying a new vehicle in 2009. As for the loans, naturally with Ford being the only troubled automaker with new product line due out for 09 and beyond, it does not look good for the other two. Not a good way to convince consumers that their product with garbage reputation is worth buying. If I want one of the many GM vehicles with bad intake manifold gaskets that were never fixed at the factory, I can buy one used. For cheap. Otherwise, my 03 F150 will serve my needs just fine.

Short term...yes. They both have to rejuvenate their forgotten efforts to make hybrids and development of vehicles powered by hydrogen. Toyota and Honda have the edge because they did not stop R&R in these areas. GM, Chrysler-Benz, and even Ford pushed their high profit SUV and pick up sales rather than pay attention to the rising price of fuel in the last 3 years.
