Does a Vauxhall Corsa have a timing belt or chain?

CORSA timing chain.?

  • I WAS GETTING A TICKING NOISE FROM THE ENGIN, I'VE BEEN TOLD BY A VAUXHALL ENGINEER THAT MY CORSA NEEDS A TIMING CHAIN REPLACED ASAP BEFORE DAMAGING THE ENGINE(IF SNAPS). I TOOK IT TO A DIFFRENT GARAGE AND THEY SAID I NEED TO CHANGE THE TENSIONER AS WELL!! IS THAT RIGHT? IM CONFUSED

  • Answer:

I own a shop, and have a degree in engineering. The tensioner is designed to keep the slop out of the chain, so the engine timing will be more accurate even though the chain may be worn out. The tensioner has a bearing that is closed, and can't be greased. The heat makes the grease dry up, and this is why they say change it too. I will agree, to do the job correctly, the tensioner ought to be changed too. It will also depends on the design of your tensioner. Some just has a wear strip, and it wears out along with the chain. Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

they are right you always change the tensoner with the chain and gears in any engine, they make a kit now that comes with all of the parts you need to do this job with, and its cheaper than just buying a new chain and gears, but always replace all of it at one time, because all of this wears out at the same time usually, good luck with it.
