    JAKE: your answer is wrong...Weight is EVERYTHING HERE.....The SSC is lighter than Bugatti, aerodynamics and weight has EVERYTHING to do with Top speed....heavy cars cannot push themselves....with heavy cars you need more power...how do you not understand power to weight ratio??? The Bugatti Veyron...of course I am sure your aware of the engine W16 with 4 turbos (engines were from Audi)... Now The Bugatti took 9 years to make, it had all sorts of problems especially the transmission, no car could handle more than 900+ ft. lb of torque.... The Bugatti is a car that can handle like the Lotus Elise and still be able to do more than 250+ MPH (253 MPH Top Speed) It is one of the rarest cars anyone can spot and you would be lucky to get your hands on one. The SSC Ultimate Aero TT.... V8 twin turbos....Top speed is 257....in theory the car can reach 273 easily... how? simple the whole car weighs 131lbs. despite the fact that the doors + seats + fuel tank + engine.....all adds the weight more than 2000 lbs. its because the car is soo light the car can easily do 257 MPH The Americans tried to prove a point....you don't really need 16 cylinders with 4 turbos to go more than 250 miles per hour... Now what they did miss out is the SSC being the most POWERFUL car in the world.....That's where the Bugatti takes the crown... Bugatti is like a luxury car, taking it to 253 miles, the car won't even shake or complain about it.....in that point I may not be sure about the SSC. If you look at the fact, the top speed battle just changes.... Caparo T1, claimed they can do it....then There's the Koenigsegg CCXR, then there's the Brabus TKR...which did it in 270 MPH....and 0-60 in 1.7 sec... The SSC is a good car, the Bugatti is really an amazing, even the builder from Mclaren F1 was amazed of how the Bugatti rides.....Really the top speed battle will just change.....

The reported record speed came from an average of two runs in opposite directions, in accordance with Guinness Book of World Records rules. The first run clocked 257.44 mph (414.31 km/h) and the return trip 254.91 mph (410.24 km/h). The results of this test, verified by Guinness World Records on October 9, 2007, gave the SSC Ultimate Aero the title of world's fastest production car, with a top speed of 256.12 mph (412.19 km/h).[18] This beat the previous record holder, the Bugatti Veyron, that has a top speed of 253.81 mph (408.47 km/h). In addition to the fastest production car record, SSC also applied for the world record for the highest horsepower for an emissions-legal production automobile.[19

The Veyron is getting pretty old. Also since it sounds like you don't like Americans, Saleen claims that the S7 could break the record if you added more boost. I'm not sure if it's possible, but they said it could.

The Aero TT is a one trick pony, it was built to go fast everything else was secondary. The Veyron is a grand touring car that is very, very fast. I think that as a whole the Veyron is the superior car (but no it doesn't handle like a Lotus, the Veyron weighs as much as a good sized SUV, it's not a nimble car by any stretch). The Aero is faster because it's far lighter than the Veyron, has good aerodynamics and produces more power. Jake: How do you figure that weight has nothing to do with top speed? Have the laws of physics changed recently? Edit: Ummm, something's max velocity is what happens when the drag of something equals the weight of the object. So yes weight does play a factor in something's top speed. You will need more power to get a 20000 pound object to 200 MPH, than you would a 2000 pound object. Once you get to the top speed then the power needed to *maintain* that speed is the same. But to get to that speed in the first place requires more power. If you were to pile 4000 pounds of concrete into a Veyron, it would never make it to 250 MPH .

The simple answer is that the Aero has more horsepower and better aerodynamics than the Veyron. Contrary to what some other people are saying, weight has absolutely nothing to do with top speed. fodaddy19: The weight of a car has absolutely nothing to do with it's top speed because top speed is all about power and resistance. If weight drastically affected the top speed of a car, how do explain the fact that the Veyron weighs more than 2 TONS and still has a top speed over 250 mph and that a car like the Koenigsegg CCR has a top speed of about 240 mph yet weighs nearly 1400 lbs LESS than a Veyron? I'll give you a hint, it's because of horespower and air resistance, not weight! Seriously, you should at least UNDERSTAND physics before you come in here and talk smack to anyone about it. I've been hod-rodding cars for a long time now and I can tell you from personal experience, you can strip out all the weight from a car that you want, it won't make the top speed any faster! Edit: Ummm... No, an object's maximum velocity is when the force of the aerodynamic resistance equals the force moving it. At maximum velocity, the object is at equilibrium, the sum of all acceleration equals zero. So adding weight to an object will cause it to accelerate to it's maximum velocity slower (as long as the force moving it is the same), but will not change the max velocity.
