KIA Sportage, 2000- help!?

  • My 2000 Kia Sportage stopped working yesterday- When you start it, all the electrical turns on like normal, but the engine won't turn over at all. I tried putting in gasline antifreeze, thinking it was a frozen gasline. (But it didn't help! We live in Ontario, it's been REALLY cold here lately!)... I think the engine is frozen up, it did this last year one day before I put a heating blanket on it for a couple hours, and it started up just fine. Does anyone know where the block heater is on the KIA Sportage 2000 model? They sell them in Canada, they should have one! I just can't seem to find it- then again, I might just be dumb (lol)... I really love my truck, except for it hating cold weather... I need to find the engine heater!!!

  • Answer:

A block heater is always a good idea in Canada, have one put in. I purchased one for $45 and it just replaces the drain plug on the block, took all of 20 minutes to install it. I plug it in every day on a timer, it comes on about 4 hours before I leave. You might want to consider using a full synthetic motor oil of 5W30 grade for the winter months, this flows better in extreme cold then your conventional oil. The fact that your engine doesn't even turn over at all indicates a problem with the starter motor, maybe even an ignition switch.

Unless you paid extra for it, there probably is no engine block heater on your Kia. Ask you Kia dealer if they can install one, and you should be fine.
