Whats your oppinion of the Scimitar verses Capri?

Whats your oppinion of the Scimitar verses Capri? Ford Capri 3 litre verses the Reliant Scimitar. I love both these classics but can't understand why the stylish Scimitar's solid construction and the rot free tough fibre fibreglass body on sturdy chases doesn't seem to be as desirable as the elegant but difficult to find rust free examples of the Capri. The engines are the same and their coupe looks are similar. I have owned one of each for many years (though my Capri is the 2 Litre version) Does anyone out their have any comments can we elevate these disappearing marks.

Answer:
I'd say because the Capri was a more affordable car from a better known manafacturer it sold considerably better and was reliable, quite robust and extremely popular with people who wanted what they saw as a sports car on a budget. Don't get me wrong, I love the Scimitars too and think they are very good cars in their own right but the car buying public of the seventies/early eighties didn't agree. I can't say for sure but the fact Reliant were far better known for a car thatw as a standing joke didn't really help it's cause. Princess Anne couldn't have been completely wrong though could she? She loved the Scimitar and I can't blame he. Didn't they (Reliant) only sell one new Scimitar one year, think possibly circa 1994? The rights to them are (or were) owned by a Scimitar specialist who's probably the world's leading specialist on the marque incidentally.

I'd say the scimitars reputation suffered due to electrical faults. As stated the rot free f/glass body didn't rust, but it didn't exactly provide the reliable earths needed for the electrical system. As for capri's,good, but it was a bad day when one came in for hinge pins,I must have bought every tool availiable back then and never found one that worked to my satisfaction.Humongus long doors.Still like 'em though.

I owned both...the Scimitar is one hell of a nice looker ..and it ends there,,,,the ride is not good ...many rattles cus of stiff chassis...and nowhere near the handling of Capri which asnt got much anyway...Scimitar noisy rattly not good at speed ...and this was a 76 one of last of the best ,,,british racing green with tan leather ,,as i said lovely looking but oh so not user friendly.. Capri was just another car but with bags of go!!!
