2001 VW Jetta, car wont start.. How do i replace battery and spark plugs?
-
My car was fine this morning, i drove it to a grovery store about 30 miles away and bought lunch. When i came out to start it, it wouldnt start. When i used my key, car did not turn over. its getting cold here, and maybe i need a new battery, but its not as simple as take plugs off and take out of car. The battery is bolted in! How do i get it out, and what about my spark plugs, how do i replace these?

Answer:
Take the plastic cover off, it pulls off straight up, remove the 2 bolts holding the battery. remove the battery cables. Drop in the new battery, tighten in place, attach battery cables. 10 minute job. Make sure the battery is correct for this application, its a tight fit, the battery has to be the same. The spark plugs are platinums, don't need replacing till over 100,000 miles.

OK, I work in mileage100K is 60,000miles. Plugs, in the old days use to get changed every 12,000 miles (or once a year) It is a cheap fix. to be sure that your car works. However, you say your car did not turn over. Nothing to do with spark plugs. Starter or battery. Unbolt the battery holder bracket at the base with a 13mm socket. 10 mm wrench will remove the clamps. If the car did not turn over after you came out from lunch, either you left your lights on, or the battery was not getting charged by the alternator. But then you should have seen a red light on the speedometer guage while you were driving it. When the red light is "ON" it is the same as an intersection red light. meaning STOP the engine and fix. Something is seriously wrong.

try jumping your car... lol. if jumping did not work, a new battery certainly wont work either.

Sounds like it's your starter, not your battery. Chances are all the spark plugs wouldn't go bad at once so if anything, your car would turn over but idle very weird (missfire) and then most likely, stall. I could also be your ignition switch. Here is a DIY on changing your spark plugs. Honestly, if you don't know how to change your battery I wouldn't suggest doing it yourself though. It's pretty easy to screw up and if you do it'll just cost you more to have it fixed. http://www.golfmkv.net/blog/archives/9 You can also go through this list and see if anything sound exactly like what you're experiencing. http://autorepair.about.com/od/troubleshooting/a/ts_no-start.htm
