My 2004 VW GTI VR6 needs coolant, the manual calls for G12 A8D, how much does it cost and do I have to mix it?
-
My boyfriend has a 2004 Volkswagen GTI VR6 and the coolant level is low and I'm afraid there will be problems if it stays that low. The owner's manual calls for G12 A8D anti-freeze coolant mixture and I know I can buy it from the VW, AUDI and a few other foreign car parts stores but I was wondering around how much it's gonna cost me. The car hasnt been in for service at the dealership in a while, thats why the coolant level is so low, so there's no worry about a leak or anything as the cause for it being low. I'm just a "little" bit more on top of things than he is, so that's why I'm doing all of this and with that in mind if anyone knows anything about what i'll need to actually do in terms of refilling the coolant, etc. please let me know. I was wondering, does it come from the dealership in a concentrated form? or is already mixed with water so I can literally just open it up and pour it in the tank? Any help would be much appreciated! Spare me the sarcastic remarks please. = )

Answer:
The only place I have ever been able to find it is at the dealership (or a few places online). You should just be able to walk into the parts dept and tell them that you need the G12 coolant. It will probably be between 15 and 20 bucks. It does need to be mixed with distilled water. How low does it show on the overflow tank? You may just be able to top it off with the coolant if it isn't too low. Whatever you do, do not use anything other than G12. I have been told that if you try to mix anything different with this stuff it will turn brown and gel and cause all sorts of issues. (I am planning some tests to see how this works. My boyfriends car has G12 and mine is supposed to have G11, but it didn't when I bought it.)

G12 coolant does not need to be mixed with water you do not need to be putting anything that is not g12 in your coolant system. G12 is expenisve at the stealership but if you get it online it will be cheaper but with shipping and haaving to wait for it in the mail I guess your better of gettin it at VW.
