What is Dimmer wire on my wiring harness for?

2003 VW Jetta wiring question, I have a stray wire next to my wiring harness... what is it?

  • Ok, so I just bought a 2003 Jetta, and it didn't have a radio in it. It has the original wiring harness, and the antenna plug. But then, there's this other red wire, and I'm not quite sure what it is. I want to just get the factory stereo, and I would just have to plug it back in, right? Right now the center console does not light up, and the light doesn't turn on when the front 2 doors are open, so it should work with the regular system. The person I bought the car from had this big system in the car, including a fancy touch screen and more speakers in the back. So does anyone have any information on this mysterious wire? Many thanks!!

    You lend yourself to abuse here asking questions like that.. Get the car to a good auto electrician if you don't understand auto electrics.. Red, is red for a reason, normally positive, meaning if incorrectly connected, it could burn out something, or cause a fire... Good luck.. [email protected]
