Can you put an alarm system in an old car?

Alarm system/door sensor stuck in 1999 Jetta?

  • I have a 1999 and a half (late version) Jetta. The key in the door with lock the car and activate the alarm system, but turning it the other way will only unlock the car and not deactivate the alarm system. The dealership said the only way to make this feature work again is to buy a new sensor for the door. I don't want an alarm system, and I'd be just as happy without it, but he said you cannot disable it. Is this true? If not, what can I do to disable it so I can lock my doors again (unlcok/lock buttons on keys do not work - my friend put the key through the wash) Thanks a million in advance!

  • Answer:

we have the same exact year and the same issue. the door actuator is what you need. We havent replaced it but is known to do this. Ours doesnt pick up that the door is open and wont lock somethimes. The actuator is like 150 i think from the dealer and with installation total is like 300-400.
