What is the difference between the VW Golf and the VW Gti?

Whats the difference between the 2001 vw golf 1.8T gls and the gti?

  • Answer:

Firstly, the Golf 2001 1.8 turbo is a 4 door, the GTI 1.8 turbo is a 2 door. However, beyond the door difference is that the GTI is better equipped than the Golf GLS; sunroof, sports seats, alloy rims are standard, (steel wheels were standard on the Golf GLS, though most had the optional alloy wheels) plus slightly different interior trim and slightly stiffer suspension settings. In addition, leather 17" alloy wheels with performance tyres and a couple of other minor items are available on the GTI,( as options) but not available on the the Golf GLS. The GTI and Golf 1.8 GLS use the same motor, the GTI is slightly "sportier" and better equipped.; otherwise they are basically the same (save for the body difference of 2 doors (GTI) vs. 4 doors (GLS). Hope this helps, a car nut.
