How do you take the flip key blade out of a vw key fob?

How long does it take for a Volkswagen dealer to make a new replacement key and fob and roughly how much?

  • I have broken my 2001 VW Passat key (literally snapped). Can I get it on the same day from my local VW dealer and roughly how much?

    Here in the UK, the main VW dealer wanted £105 ($165) to replace the key for my Golf, however that's the one without the remote locking. They reckoned it'd take a week to replace. Hope this helps

Amazingkeys.com has the 2001 VW Passat keys for $29.99 each according to their website. You would still need to have one of their affiliates cut and program the key or take it to the dealer for programming and cutting. Here is the link with the picture of the key:

It depends on how long it takes them to get the locksmith they don't tell you about over there to cut the key or whether they order it from Germany. If you are in or near a bigger city, there is an automotive locksmith that can come out and make you a key.
