My outboard keeps cutting out?

Volkswagon polo saloon 1.4 (year 1996) keeps cutting out?

  • Volkswagon polo saloon 1.4 (year 1996) keeps cutting out? My polo keeps cutting out when I come to a stop or when in traffic. How can I increase idle speed, or what can I do to sort this problem

  • Answer:

It is impossible to increase the idlle speed This is factory set and cannot be tampered with due to emmisions restrictions forcing it to be designed that way. It may need a full service including new plugs. It may need a new or cleaned idle air control valve.

its most likely the (mass of airflow) MAF sensor it measures the air going into the engine and sends the information to the computer witch controls a flap on the air intake it sounds like it is making the flap close up and suffocating the engine or its staying open and there is too much oxygen going into the engine thus cutting it out.

first thing you should do is check the throttle body ,these are prone to clogging up with black gunk this will close up the air gap resulting in cutting out at idle, best thing you could do is remove the throttle body and get a good carb cleaner and clean the inside of the throttle both above and below the throttle valve. hope this helps

Most commonly 1 of the 5 (or a combination) on a 1.4 (96) Polo: - Engine speed sensor - Marelli 4LV Sensor (duff injector) - Fuel pump - Lambda Sensor - Worn HT Leads That should get you started off.. otherwise, really difficult to diagnose over the Internet without the car in front..
