Where is the transmission for a vw beetle yr 2000?

2000 vw beetle engine revs but car inches forward?

  • This problem always happens on my way home on Thursday nights in the same area after the car has been running about 45 minutes. I am stopped at a light and when I go to accelerate the car will only creep forward and the engine revs like crazy. Then I have to pull over let everyone go around me roll down the street and then it will catch. I have had the transmission checked and it passed with flying colors. I recently replaced the Speed sensor thinking that was the culprit. It did help some other problems but not that one. I also had the temp sensor changed. Could I have a short somewhere? What is going on with this dang car!?

  • Answer:

Please give more details about the car. Automatic or stick? If it is automatic , you could have a torque converter problem. If stick, a clutch problem.

A simple concept is that the engine develops the power to move a vehicle, and the transmission couples that power to the vehicle's wheels. So if your engine is running and has power, but your wheels aren't turning, then your transmission isn't connecting your engine to your wheels!! That doesn't mean your transmission's necessarily at fault, but that's where to start looking for trouble. Maybe your shift linkage isn't telling the transmission to engage (etc). i own a repair shop ,and what its doing right now is the transmission is slipping in it,that's whats causing this to happen to it,anytime you give one gas and it don't move you have transmission problems, you need to check the fluid in t,its probably really low,but if it has a burnt smell to it,then its going to have to go to the shop for a repair, sorry to give you bad news, but this is an expensive repair, good luck i hope this helps.

Take it to another transmission shop. The last guy didn't know what is what. Problem is transmission. Engine runs wheels turn...but the wheels are not connected to the engine(the transmission is the connecting point.
