How do you take the flip key blade out of a vw key fob?

Why wont my vw caddy van let me programme new remote key fob?

  • I have a 1999 volkswagen caddy van and recently got a new remote key fob for it to replace an old fob I have. I have found programming instructions but it doesnt seem to be working. I turn the ignition on, lock the drivers door and press the unlock button on the fob. I am now supposed to hear the horn sound but dont. And when I turn the ignition off the fob doesnt work. The barrel in the drivers door doesnt work with the key as its faulty so dont know if this could be a reason why its not programming? Does anyone know why I am unable to programme the fob properly. It is the correct fob at the right frequency and same part number as the old fob. But I am puzzled.

  • Answer:

replace the battery in the fob. Have you programmed the maximim number of fobs already and the new one is over the limit?

Other answers

The Programming instructions are to re-synchronise the keyfob with the vehicle electronics after replacing a fob battery. They won't let you use a new fob just like that, or else it would be a thieves delight. What you have to do is program the vehicle to recognise the new fob and this is normally a dealer job.
