What is the difference between the VW Golf and the VW Gti?

What is the difference between a vw golf gti, tdi and normal golf?

  • on the basis of: speed fuel consumption price space insurance (17 year old male) and what year of golf is the best any others :D

  • Answer:

The GTi is the fast one, the TDi is the Diseasel one, and the normal ones are normal. There have far too many versions and models of Golf to give an accurate review here, check out Parkers guide here.. http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/prices/#manu=12243 What I can tell you is that at 17 you'll be looking at well over £3k to insure even a basic 1.4 petrol, double that for a TDi, and double it again for a GTi.

tdi is a diesel , gti is a fast petrol, real thirsty and high insurance, normal I guess is a 1;4 or a 1.6 petrol, all are excellent cars, but you need to look for a 1.4 otherwise you will not be able to insure

well a normal golf is either a 1.4 or 1.6, they get around 38mpg if you do long motorway journiess, not that fast 0 - 60 in about 9 secs, tdi is the best, turbo and the engines come in 90 , 100, 110, 130 and 150bhp varents, im 19 and pay £2000 for a 110bhp diesel, i get around 50mpg up to about 64 on a slow motorway journey a gti is out of the question, till your at least 20. im basing this on a mk4 1999 till 2005. if you go for a SE or higher trim, your get recaro/ sport seats, trip computer auto wipers, dimming rear view mirror, a decent stereo and air con all have the same space, but prices varey, you can get a early 1999 - 2000 petrol golf for about £1200 but if you want a deisel expect to pay around £1000 more. its worth it though, turbo whistle is amazing! and less trips to the pumps, easier to drive. shop around, make sure you cambelt has been done. look at http://uk-mkivs.net/ to see what people make of theirs i love mine, wont be changing it for a long time, its on 104k and pulls like a train. the mk5 is a more refined car but has the same sort of kit, expect to pay between 4k and 19k, insurance will be the killer. mk3s are pritty dire now, all getting on a bit, mk2s arent a good first car so yeah mk4 golfs, if you find one thats been looked after will keep you going for a long long time

I think there is no difference except the engines Normal golf 1.6 and golf tdi nearly has the same speed but the diesel tdi gives more mileage golf gti is a fantastic sporty enigne gives you good torque and speed, so it burns so much petrol if I want a faster version of golf I would go for GTD

Golf - Regular daily driver w/ gasoline engine. TDI - Turbodiesel engine. GTI - Sporty Golf with more power, bells and whistles and trim stuff.
