My outboard keeps cutting out?

My vw golf gti (mk4 2002) keeps cutting out?

  • My vw mk4 golf gti keeps cutting out, it can happen at traffic lights or when driving, the car loses all power it will start up soon after; I have replaced the fuel pump and filter and cleaned out the fuel lines but its still cutting out. Any help would be appreciated.

    yeah i have this same exact problem in a 99 VW Jetta GLS but the problem in mine is that it wont start after it would only turn over. right now i have it at the used dealer waiting for results

Lots of possibilities. What I would recommend is installing a fuel pressure gauge. You can buy a cheap oil pressure gauge and adapt that. This will tell you if the relay or power to the fuel pump is the culprit, because you will get a sudden drop in pressure. If the pressure slowly drops, then I would suspect the gas tank purge/vent valve is bad and causing vacuum to build up in the tank. If there is no change in fuel pressure, then the problem is electrical, probably with the spark.
