How does bug repellent work?

How can i make a newly bought radio work in my 2000 VW bug?

  • the radio in my 2000 VW bug broke last year and I recently bought a replacement over Ebay. I have found that I need a special 4 digit code in order to get the radio to work. I have done some research and I found that I can get this code through Volkswagen however when I called them they said I'd have to bring the car into their shop and have them program the code into the radio. I think what is really happening is that volkswagen just wants to get my money, can anyone offer me any suggestions for getting this code without having to pay a fortune. also does my vin number play a part in getting the radio to work, I know the radios are designed so that if they are stolen that they can't be used without the codes but I purchased this radio fairly from a reputable seller and would just like to get it to work. any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much.

  • Answer:

The radio SERIAL NUMBER is required for a code First remove the radio from the dashboard. Then post the radio make+model plus all the letters+numbers on any labels, barcodes or stamped in the metal casing. This information can then be used to see if a code can be calculated Note: The V W Dealer can normally quote the radio code from the VIN number but this is for the ORIGINAL radio fitted in the car when first sold.

Well you got 2 options.First one doesn't apply to u but to those who got the radio from a reputable neighborhood gangster because it would ask to go back & steal the whole car with the title. The second one is to simply go to the place u bought it from & ask them the same.Good luck! Hey,I almost forgot, hope these people u bought it from are not one of them whith baggy pants down flourishing all over the city corners these days.In that case we gotta go to option three, which is sue them.

VW is not the best place to get the radio reprogrammed. Anyone who sells just that brand of radio, is much better and will likely do it for free. There are places on line that will give you a free code, but that is based on assumptions about the code being derived from the radio serial number. And that does not have to be the case. It is just a common practice. Your VIN number has nothing to do with it.
