Is the VW New Beetle a cool car for a guy to buy?

  • I'm looking to buy my first car, and I found several VW New Beetles for sale within my price range. I remember when I was in Middle school, I went to a mall and I checked one out at a mall and I thought it was really cool because it was small, got good gas mileage, and had a nice interior. However, would the New Beetle be cool for a guy to buy? I've heard several people say that they are mostly girl cars. Would a New Beetle be cool for a guy in the right color (dark blue, black, etc)?

    For your first car its ok, I also have an beetle for my first car, but I do take some ribbing because of its lack of performance and that mostly middle age women drive them. Gas mileage is ok but not what you would expect of a sub compact car (20-25mpg) but it gets you where you need to go. The view is great, when driving there is virtually no blind spots. Road handling is good, I can take corners from 12-18mph. The downsides: if the car has over 100k miles you may need a trans rebuild sometime in the near future because VW uses a sealed transmission, there is barely any AM radio reception, and don't expect to get from 0-60mph in a hurry either. Overall an ok car.

In general, they are chick cars. However, if you really like it, go ahead and buy it. People just may think you are a pansy. If you like VW but are worried that the Beetle is a chick car, consider the Jetta. The Jetta TDI gets insane fuel economy (it is a diesel) and isn't as girly as a Beetle.

I would say so as long as you pick it in Black, Red, or Dark Blue. Avoid getting it in yellow or green.

I'm 19 male... and I drive a red New Beetle... However, if I had the money I would get a turbo and add some modifications to make it look sporty. I'm not a fan of the light colors too, like green, yellow, light blue, cream peach. go to newbeetle.org and theres tons of pics of people 'pimping' their beetle. And their so much fun to drive!

We used to have an orange one. My husband drove it and he was teased about it looking like a pumpkin, lol. He wouldn't let me put too much stuff in it for fear it would be too girly. His buddy drives a red one. Never fear, I've seen plenty of guys who have them.

if its a turbo and ur buy ur self a boost controller and increase the psi, then yes it would be for a guy, or a girl that knows how to handle a fast car... lol but yeah u can make a turbo beetle pretty quick
