What is the difference between Asian Beetles and Ladybugs?

Whats the difference (looks wise) between the New VW Beetles years?

    They flattened the wheel arches a little on the later cars. I am sure there were many tiny tweaks but that is the most noticeable thing

And the newer ones have different tail lights. My mom used to drive a 2000 Beetle and she now drives a 2008 Beetle Convertible and the interiors are exactly the same.

There are numerous details that are different, most importantly the different engines (1.8T gas, 1.9tdi, and 2.0 gas in older ones and the 2.5L in the newest). Also the newest models have the DSG or Triptonic transmissions on offer. Interiors haven't changed a whole bunch, though the older models is where you can find the best (2 color leather interiors) - those are Color Concepts.
