Why are SUVs in RWD when in 2x4 mode?

4x4 question for Toyota Pickup?

  • Does having a 4X4-equipped Vehicle in the 2X4/RWD mode take up more gas? Or does it only take more gas if it's in the 4X4 Mode?

  • Answer:

Only if it's a Toyota. american trucks are far more fuel efficient. so it doesn't matter if it's 4x4 or 4x2. Just as long as it's not made by Toyota. ( BTW toyota doesn't actually make real trucks, just girly wannabe trucks that have stuck gas pedals.)

the additional weight will effect the economy side of the question. in 4 wheel drive more fuel is used because you are putting power through more gearboxes. that takes more effort.

Yes a Toyota 4x4 will guzzle a LOT more gas than a 2wd.

If the truck is in 4X2 mode (or 2 wheel drive) it will use less fuel than if its in 4X4. However since its a 4x4 model it will use more fuel than the same truck in a 2WD model just due to a 4x4 truck has more weight on it with the added 4x4 components.
