AWD on Toyota Matrix 2009?

Why the toyota matrix 2009 much more waited than the corolla 2009?

  • I´ve seen a lot of advertisment of the matrix but just a few of the corolla.. is the matrix much better than the corolla??

  • Answer:

The Corolla, Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe are all the same car mechanically. They are built in the same factory, on the same production line in a joint venture between Toyota and GM. Advertising has nothing to do with how good a car is. The Matrix is better in my opinion because it is a hatchback/wagon, which is more useful. Of all three, I would pick the Pontiac Vibe because GM give you a warranty that is 3X longer, and it is an American car, sending money to the American economy.

I'm no expert on the new cars but a friend of mine has the new Matrix and the paperwork says Corolla Matrix. Autoblog says that you should think of the Matrix as a Corolla wagon. I was told by the same friend, not a Toyota mechanic, that the Matrix is just a different body and interior placed on a Corolla chasis and power train (engine/transmission). Auto blog also states that the Matrix has two engine/transmission options and that they are the same options in the Corolla. "Is the Matrix much better?" I'd guess that they are the same and I can't imagine anything better than a Corolla for reliability. I have driven nothing but Corollas since I was 16. I'm now in my late 30s and my current 1995 Corolla has over 283,500 miles on it with no major work having been done. I change the oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles and change the belts and water pump every 100,000 miles. At around 200,000 miles I changed the struts. At 260,000 miles I changed the front axles for less than $400. It runs as well as when I bought it in 1997 when it had 24,000 miles on it. It has a 7afe, 4 cylinder, 1.8 litre engine and currently gets about 44 miles per gallon hwy at 60 miles per hour and 37 miles per gallon highway at 75 miles per hour. I hope to drive it to 500,000 miles at a minimum and I've seen them with much higher mileage. If you are looking to buy, I would say you could buy either the Corolla or the Matrix with equal confidence making your decision based on personal taste and budget. Toyotas have a great reputation. I know someone who bought a 1977 Toyota new and drove only that car for 30 years on a daily basis at which time they bought a new Matrix and sold the 1977 Toyota to an out of state buyer in the first weekend of January 2008. The new buyer drove it home across four states without a worry. The car had only had oil, spark plug and tire changes and maybe a coolant flush now and then. I hope I've helped you to some degree. Best wishes.

Toyota considers it the same car in a different body style There is more cargo room inside the Matrix. On the base model the rear seats fold down and on the sport and XRS model the front passenger seat folds down. However the corolla is cheaper and gets a few more mpg. It depends on if you want the extra room or not. Hatchbacks are becoming more popular as people downsize their suvs in order to get better gas mileage. Pretty much every car maker has a hatchback in their lineup The Matrix isn't one of Toyota's top selling cars though. The Pontiac Vibe is the same car since it was a joint venture with GM.
