Why does my toyota camry le steering wheel lock while im driving?

  • today i turned my car on to leave for school. when i pull out of my driveway i was turning the steering wheel in the direction that i needed to go when the steering wheel locked for a couple seconds and then released. after class i was coming out of the parking lot, when i started to turn onto the street, the steering wheel locked for a moment and then released again i drive a 1999 toyota camry LE. best answer will be chosen please help

    I would seriously recommend that you don't drive this vehicle until it is repaired. I doubt that it is the steering wheel lock (those are pretty fool proof) but I suspect there's something in the steering system that's fetching up, and that's not good.

Christ, that's scary! Is it the steering wheel lock or is it in the front end components? Knowing that will help us narrow it down for you.

i think, your steering collum has a knuckle between the collum and the wheels and some times those knuckles get bad, or it can also be Your rack and pinion going bad loosing power steering pressure.. both are not cheap fixing.. good luck

maybe low steering fluid does it make a loud noise when u turn it on? if so then that what it is...
