Are you happy with your Toyota Tundra?

Toyota Tacoma or Toyota Tundra???

  • I am in the process at looking at another truck. I currently own a 94' Nissan Pick-up but I am looking for something newer. I came across the Tundra and the Tacoma and I heard Toyota trucks are pretty good and reliable. I know the Tundra is the bigger of the two but which one would recommend for a 20 year old college student? Also, not that it is a big deal or anything but does the 01-04 model Tundras and Tacomas come with keyless entry? Anyways, positive answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Niether, if it has to be Japanese buy another Nissan. Thier engines beat out the Americans for power (sometimes). Toyota also had the most recalls of any manufacturer, and Ford had more than GM and DaimlerChrysler combined. Toyotas also have common complaints about the plastic rattling itself off, only to be told theres som much plastic its impossible to fix. Toyotas reliability has also gone while the demand has risen. My alternatives? Instead of getting a Tacoma, look at a Dodge Dakota, they have excellent ratings, is picked a cars.com top pick, and will out haul most fullsize trucks. For a fullsize (during the years you want) a Nissan Titan would be awesome. With base equipment this will beat comparative American trucks. Its also bigger than a Tundra, his more rugged styling and is just as reliable. If you can buy new look at the GMC Sierra, Chevy Silverado or Dodge Ram. edmunds.com rated Chevy the top fullsize truck, and that was the old design. Tacoma is easier to park ....

Depends on what kind of features you are looking for. More cargo space, better gas efficiency, bigger engine, more power... I'd start by creating a pro/con list of features that I'm interested in. Most Toyotas were optional with keyless entry between 01-04. However I think all SR5 models had keyless entry as standard equipment. If you have to buy a truck right now I would say go for the Tacoma. It's by far the best pickup on the market. It may not be as powerful as the Frontier however it has a much better build quality and has a more refined feel. The Tacoma is lighter than the Frontier which is why it gets better mpg, also because of the weight advantage the Tacoma would be neck-in-neck in a straight out drag race with the Frontier. The only pickup that is faster than either the Frontier and Tacoma is the V8 HEMI version of the Dodge Dakota. If your looking for a Tundra, they are very cheap right now. In California Toyota is offering $3,000 rebates for the Double Cab models. However I suggest that you wait until January of 2007. Thats when the all new redesigned Tundra will start hitting Toyota showrooms. It will feature Toyota's all new 5.7 liter i-Force V8. You will most likely not recieve any discounts for the new Tundra, but I highly recommend waiting around for it. I have an 01 Tacoma Prerunner Doublecab and love it so much they'll probably bury me in it. I'm 43, 6'-7" tall and weigh about 280 lbs. and still have a lot of room behind the wheel. I would recommend this truck to anyone.

Definitely go for the Toyota Tacoma over the Tundra....well, I am a chick who doesn't know alot about cars so I am just saying this from a looks perspective...my husband and I used to have a 99 Tacoma and I loved it...and my husband wants to get a new Tacoma now...also my brother has a new Tacoma and I think it looks better than the Tundra. They are reliable and get good gas mileage...we went well over 100,000 miles and it was going strong! It had to have stuff fixed on it...but it still lasted longer than most other cars. I talked to this one guy that had over 200,000 miles on his Tacoma and he was still very proud of its performance. He was a mechanic. My dad says Toyotas are the best, even though he drives a Dodge right now. So for this answer only...score, Tacoma 5, Tundra 0. My brother's new Tacoma has keyless entry...so I am thinking the Tundra does, too. Our older Tacoma did not have keyless entry. Oh yeah...I used to have a 95 Nissan Hardbody pickup and I hated that thing...it was reliable, but ugly and uncomfortable....and I had a 97 Nissan Hardbody pickup...same opinion on that. So if you can afford to have a better truck, go for it....we also used the Tacoma for 4x4ing in the mountains in Colorado...but really a 20 year old college student just needs something to get around from point a to point b....so you can't go wrong with what you got.

We have an 03 tacoma and yes it has keyless entry id say the tacoma for you. gas will cost less..but yet still a great little truck. Tundra is justv bigger. comes witha V8 instead of v6
