Is it more expensive to buy an extended auto warranty after the car is purchased?

  • My in-laws just bought a new Toyota and opted not to buy the extended warranty at this time. The guy said they could purchase the Toyota extended warranty any time for the same price as long as it was during the existing warranty period. Is this correct?

    Yes, this is absolutely correct, it goes WAAAAAYYYYY up after you let the car go out of manufacturer's warranty. the car could have just ONE mile left under the original manufacturer's warranty and you can still get the same price he offered, but let that car go ONE mile OVER, and you will regret it. Works the same way for my line of cars also.

No it is not more expensive, unless you get out of factory warranty. Extended warranties is a very negotiable contract. MAKE sure you get a TOYOTA extended warranty and NO OTHER! Some dealers will try to push a aftermarket company on you, don't do it. Stick to a toyota extended warranty and also, call several dealers and ask for their best price. You can buy an extended warranty $100 over cost. For example, my extended warranty on my truck for 6 year/100,000 with no deductible retailed for $2800.00. I bought it for $1600.00
