How do I replace a pot light bulb?

How do i rmove my right tail light so that i can replace a bulb?

  • My right tail light (only the white reverse light) is broken and i wanted to replace the bulb but i cant get the tail light cover thing off and its a 98 4 runner and there are only 2 bolts to remove (or so i think) so please help

    No, there's more than that. Minimum is probably 4. Some are hidden. Are there screws on the outside of the lens? If not, then it's got nuts on studs inside the rear hatch area, behind the plastic covering, and you'll have to gain access to that before you can get to them. Look for little round hole plugs in the plastic, or screws to remove the plastic cover behind the tail light assembly. Good luck! If it is only the bulb, are you sure you have to change it from the outside? Most tail lamp bulbs are replaced by removing a cover inside the vehicle. check your manual, but even my 1976 car worked that way. I believe the complete assembly, lense and housing, are fused together, and any screws you undo from the outside will remove the whole assembly.

I would double check the hold down hardware, then try gently prying it out with screwdriver, some imports have a small clothlike gasket to keep out moisture that sometimes hardens, making the whole tail lamp hard to remove.

On my '97 Corolla, there are two screws on the outside, on the side toward the license plate, and one screw protruding on the inside with a nut on it. I removed the two outside screws and the inside nut, and the whole assembly slipped right out for bulb changing. Now that I know how to do it, the whole operation will take no more than a couple of minutes.
