Is the Toyota Prius an Automatic Car?

Which car would u choose? Honda civic, toyota prius, toyota Corrolla, Nissian Sentra?

  • Im a new driver and am about to buy a new car. I want a nice reliable, feul efficent car for a good price. Please pick out which car u would buy and y? If u have any other car suggestions please tell me.

  • Answer:

Prius will definitely save you a lot of money as the price of oil is suppose to jump again. It has a solid driving feel, its safe and until September 30 you save 750$ on it. It is not a red neck's car or a pink cadillac. It definitely gives a strong statement about you. It will make a good impression on a smart, sophisticated college girl. Civic feels light and unsettled when you pick up speed unless you get the Si. Corrolla feels good but does very badly in crash tests. Nissan Sentra is the least reliable of the bunch on par with the Cobalt. By the way most car companies offer bumper to bumper warranty for 7year/80000 miles for approximately 2400$ extra.

I've test-driven all those cars when I was looking for a new daily-driver. While all those cars are good choices, I finally decided on a Toyota Prius and I'm very satisfied with my decision. The reason why I chose the Prius is because it is the lowest-maintenance of all those cars: - The Prius has a non-shifting planetary-gear transmission that is much simpler than the trannies in all the other cars. Which means it's very long-lasting and low-maintenance. (The other cars use either conventional or belt-and-cone CVT transmissions, which are more complex and require more maintenance.) - Since the gasoline engine isn't running all the time when you are driving the Prius, oil change intervals are far in between (5000 miles using dino oil, as opposed to 3000 miles on dino oil for regular cars). - The brake pads and rotors will last 100,000+ miles because they are not used much-- Most of the timeThe Prius uses regenerative braking instead. - There are no alternators, starters, or spark plug cables in the Prius. Less things to wear out and need repair. The other benefits are cool too-- drive-by-wire controls, touch-screen electronics, as much interior space as a Camry, and needless to say, great fuel economy. The Prius is an excellent daily-driver car.

Toyota Prius FOR SURE. Toyota has long been a maker of cars that are reliable, don't have a lot of problems, and last for a long time. The Prius gets about 50 miles to the gallon; it doesn't even use gas until you reach 35 MPH. It is a nice sized car and will run for a very long time (as long as you treat it right and keep up with the normal maintanance, of course). It's about $23,000, but worth it. It's my dream car. I, however, drive a Hyundai Accent GS 3-door. I LOVE it. It ran me about $13,000 totally standard, manual windows and locks, automatic transmission, but I got air conditioning and a CD player which added a grand onto the price. My car gets about 28 MPG. It's definitely not built for speed, but it's a very practical car. Even though it's a hatchback, it has tons of room. I was really surprised when I test drove it. It's a very cute car (http://photos-125.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sctm/v104/77/81/1418430125/n1418430125_30123946_2659.jpg - picture there, I know there's a giant squid on it. Fun on vacation, you know). I love Hyundai and suggest them to everyone. They weren't such a reliable company until about 2002, but my dad has a 2002 Sonata, 170,000 miles, and it still runs like new. All he's had to replace are the brake pads. Go with whatever you're comfortable with, and test drive whatever you feel. Good luck!

Those are all great choices. (Note: The Nissan Sentra is the only one you mentioned that doesn't appear in the Consumer Reports Best Used Car List, so its odds of being reliable may be a little lower than the others.) Some others you might want to look at: Honda Fit: http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/2007-honda-fit.htm Toyota Yaris: http://www.edmunds.com/toyota/yaris/2007/ratings.html Scion (all): http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/new-scion-prices-reviews.htm If push came to shove, I would vote for the Civic. :-) Consumer Reports Best and Worst Used Cars: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/used-cars/used-cars-best-and-worst-406/index.htm

Personally I think the Prius is the clear choice. It gets the best mileage (50 mpg in both city and highway driving), it's reliable, comfortable, roomy, has lots of cool features, has a great warranty, etc. It's also the greenest car on the planet: http://www.reuters.com/article/environmentNews/idUSL2733658020070727?feedType=RSS It has a higher initial cost, but makes up for that in gas savings over about 5 years. http://www.cnn.com/2006/AUTOS/08/22/bc.autos.hybrids.reut/index.html So if you get a 5 year loan to pay for the car, your gas savings will make up forthe higher monthly payments, then after the car is paid off in 5 years you're saving money. Prius is an awesome car.

the cars that u listed are all good cars; but if i were to buy, would def. go for Honda Civic....nice outlook, interior, fuel efficent (not sure of it) and good resale value.........

Aaron.L

For commuting I would pick the Prius. For around town, the corolla or sentra. For good fuel but will last for a long, long time, and looks good, I would pick the Honda Civic.

turbocivic89

all the cars u listed are good but i would pick the civic - best resale value

I would recommend the Hyundai over a Honda these days, price is better but the reputation has not kept up with how good the Hyundai is....two different mechanics told me that. It has a great warranty, and extra new safety features. good for new drivers and the mpg is decent (averages around 30) .
