Is the 2009 Toyota Matrix reliable? Or should I go with the 2009 Scion tC?

Answer:
Two rather different cars, really. I test drove the 09 Matrix and it's a very well thought out vehicle. You can't really go wrong with a tC either. If you're still young, it's probably the way to go. If you have to haul a lot of people and/or stuff, the Matrix is probably your best bet. Reliability of both cars is outstanding. (Consumer Reports rates both of them very good there.)

well toyota is a reliable company so they are both reliable cars, but the toyota matrix will probably be more convenient since it has four doors. i don't know much about the matrix, but i do have a scion tc and i love it, but it all depends on what you need. the insurance on the scion is very high because it is a two door car, so the matrix's insurance will most likely be cheaper. as a 17 year old girl i like the tc better because it is more sporty and it has a lot of cool standard features. but your best bet is to just go to your toyota dealership, check out both cars, give them a test drive, and see which one would work better for you. good luck!

depends on what matrix you look at. the matrix has the base model, the S model and XRS model. the S and XRS have the same engine as the tC so gas mileage will be relitivily close. gas mileage for the tC can go from 20 mpg to 30 mpg, depending on how you drive, if i drive my tC hard i get 20, if i drive easy i'll get 30mpg. i dont know why people say the insurance is high for the tC because its a two door car. its a three door car, hatchback, and the car is classified as a sedan. also the insurance is cheap for me then again i have USAA but insurance is cheap for me. but the matrix is a four door, easier for friends or family to get in and out of with out the hassle of messing with the driver/passager seat. but the tC is the same just two door, and it is based on a four door Avensis. the wheels base, from front tire to rear tire, on the tC is 107 inches where as the matrix is around 102 inches. longer the wheel base, this case the tC, the more leg room you have in front and back. cargo space in the tC is pretty good for looking like a small car, im not sure on the matrix. the tC works fine for me, great amount of room, ive carried a 45 inch screen tv STAND in the back with the seats folded down and still had other things as well as my cousin in there, so there is plenty of space. great performance in the tC whether you get an auto or standard transmission. ive got no complaints about the tC and it has good safety the glass roof is capable of holding almost twice the weight of the tC just in case it rolls over. handeling is good, but like any other car dont push it past its limits. id go with the tC for looks but also think about where you will be in the future and what will be good for you.... may i also recomend the pontiac vibe, same exact thing as the toyota matrix, toyota and gm both worked on the matrix/vibe, they are what we call twins, same plateform, engines, tranny's just dressed in different "clothes"

ive had a scion for a while and no problems at all, though there made by the same companys so they are probably equal.
Broke...
I can tell you that the Toyota Matrix is a very good car, it has loads of room, really good mileage, VERY RELIABLE (from experience), and looks very good. On the other hand , the Scion is a good car (because its made by Toyota) so that would be a nice car too! its smaller but looks cooler (in my opinion) Either way its up to you, Good Luck! :-)

What they other guys said, but I just wanted to expand on the high insurance topic. tC's usually have higher insurance premiums, because of the total amount of money the insurance company has to pay out for claims. The car is wildly popular among younger drivers, which means there's a lot of them wrecked. The more a make/model costs the company, the more they charge you.
