Why is my stereo head unit turning off?

Scion tC with Ipod ready head unit (stereo)?

  • Does anyone know, or can give me some info about the stereo hookup on an 07 scion tc, ive been told that the mp3 ready (with audio jack aux) is DIFFERENT than the ipod capable stereo. im refering to the head unit, i thought they would be the same but just use different cables. im purchasing a new tc and have the option for either stereo. im thinking that they just use the same head unit but just give u different hookups, because i want the ipod one because it will charge my ipod and also make it conrtollable from the stereo and steering wheel, as opposed to the audio jack mp3 one, that will only play, no bonus stuff. if i know that they are the same head unit then i can just get the cheaper one and add the cable on later myself for much cheeper than what they are asking for it in the options package.

    That was a long question, but I think what you want to know is you do NEED the upgraded (additional $260) head unit to control your ipod from the head unit/steering wheel. the standard head unit allows you to play any mp3 player ( i even connected my cell phone that plays mp3's) through the aux. jack. This doesn't not allow you to control your music from your head unit, you must shuffle songs on the mp3 player. It is actually a different head unit. There are more controls for the ipod player. Go to either site's below forum and search head unit or ipod, you'll get more info than you need.

I hooked up my sirus radio to the TC's Aux plug in. You want to check into a good noise reduction to power your ipod, if you use just the fuse box it might give a whistle from the alternator. My sirus does that when it is raining... But with 3 15's and 4000W who can hear a whistle... LOL

The standard stereo for an 07 tC comes with an auxilary input jack that allows you to connect any external device with a standard stereo input/output. The IPOD capable upgrade is a $260 option and in addition the the standard auxilary input, has a specific IPOD port and cable that does allow you to control your IPOD through the wheel mounted audio controls. The head units are 2 different units and they do look different. The IPOD capable unit also has the color changing LED screen. If you are really interested in having that IPOD capability, you should get the upgraded head unit, because to add it later would cost more than the cost of the upgrade.

As far as I know they are the exact same head unit, just different connections on the front. It also has a aux input on it, so that takes care of the AUX on the radio. You can run a cable and have the aux anywhere you want.
