How much to offer for Nissan Altima Coupe if paying cash?

  • I am currently deployed to the Middle East and am saving all my money to pay cash for a new Nissan Altima Coupe (I go home in June so I believe that will still be the 2009) with the convenience, premium, and technology package. I'm going to try to keep the cloth seats instead of getting leather though. I am not very good at negotiating nor at determining a fair price so I need help. How much should I offer to pay if I pay cash for the car and don't finance it?

    First, with premium and tech package, you never get cloth seats. If you tell dealer that you pay cash. They will increase the price as they can't take any interest from you. This is what I did when I bought my coupe. I went through finance and I paid off after 3 months or so.

The dealership is actually making less money if you don't finance (they get a small kick back from the finance company) so I wouldn't look at that as a big plus for them in negotiations. If I were you, I would purchase a one year old used Altima with very low mileage if you are paying cash. This way you take advantage of the first year of depreciation (you save thousands vs a new car) and since you are paying cash you won't have to pay high finance rates for a used car loan.

Don't even tell the dealer you want to pay cash. The very last part of negotiations pull out your check book and write a check for around $38,000 dollars. Most people like the leather seats. Many people get the technology package so they can get navi sunroof and leather. I think once you drive the new Maxima you'll like it better. Altima coupe is very small inside.
