Is Nissan falsely advertising their roadside assistance program? If so, what can be done? ?
-
I have a Nissan Emergency Roadside Assistance program that came with the warranty I purchased for my 2007 Dodge Ram. Anyone familiar with the truck, knows the key is a keyless entry remote, transponder and key, all-in-one. The key cost about $300 from the dealership. Ok, I lost my keys while cutting down some brush and can not find them. I realized I have the roadside assistance, so I go online to check out the details of the program, and this is exactly what it says "Emergency Lockout Service: On-site repair by an authorized locksmith/lockout service if you lose/break your keys, or your keys are accidentally locked inside your vehicle." So I call the service, the rep tells me they will have my truck towed to a dealership and they will make me a key. So I agreed and my truck was towed about 30 miles to a dealership and once I get there I am told that the key is my expense. I then call the service back and am told that they do not cover the cost of keys, only the towing. After arguing with them about the whole incident, I wasn't able to get them to pay for the key and I had to pull my truck to the house because I couldn't afford to purchase the key. I believe that with what they state on their website, they are falsely advertising their service because they would not pay for a key, and would not send out a locksmith to make me a key. Just to clarify, it's not that I exceeded their $100 limit on calls but that they will not provide me with a key regardless. Thanks in advance for any and all responses!

Answer:
Why would they pay for your key? You're not too bright. If that were the case, you could call them ten times, have it towed in 10 different times, and have 10 keys cut. Does that make sense to you? Cmon man. They covered the towing...WTF do you expect? I think some people are too stupid to buy cars. It's not Nissan's fault you lost your key. Be glad the towing was covered. Stupid question. "Emergency Lockout Service: On-site repair by an authorized locksmith/lockout service if you lose/break your keys, or your keys are accidentally locked inside your vehicle." Does that state ANYWHERE that you will get a free key? Pay for the key or leave your truck sit. That's your options. False advertising? Go see a lawyer and tell them your situation...don't let the door hit you in the a$$ as they laugh you out of their office. Go ahead and report abuse if you like. Don't really care. Have a nice day :-)

Not sure how you are confused on this. They are not going to pay for a key if you lose it. They will pay for a locksmith to unlock your car, but will not pay for another key. If you lose your key that is your deal. A locksmith cannot make you a key anyway because that is a dealer item only and the dealership must program the chip in the key to make it work. The dealership did nothing wrong and there is no false advertising in that.

Check the fine print, because it's easy to sound like they said something. If you still think it says that, first thing I'd do would be a web search to see if there are others with the same beef - Could already be a class action suit in the works somewhere.

I work for Nissan and cannot really know how complex the key programing would be on a Dodge Ram truck. Nissan cars with Chip Keys and Nissans with I-Key must be programed so the car will start. Late model cars must have dealership pin read and unlock codes off of a Nissan Asist computer. There are very few Lock Smiths with the computer necessary to talk to the car to program new keys. A case could be made for all car owners to have both sets of keys that came with the Truck But you purchased used. Call the Nissan used car manager and say if I cannot use my truck I cannot continue to make payments. And ask if they have another key or are willing to buy you a key to keep you paying for your truck. Every One Out There! please have a back up set of keys for just such an emergency. Make a second set of keys part of the deal when buying a car.
