How to import cars from Japan to Canada?

I want to import a 1999 Skyline GT-R r34 from japan but to import to canada they must be over 15 years.?

  • I would like to know why they must be 15 years old? and second is it possible to import one and make it legal here?

  • Answer:

You need to contact the Registrar of Imported Vehicles and ask if it is legal. It most likely will not be due to safety standards (or lack of crash testing). These other posters don't realize that you are posting from Yahoo! Canada. It would have been helpful to mention that!

Ok I have answered this question before. #1 Nissan R-34 GT-R was a very special car built in very limited numbers. #2 Japan Has strange auto laws people replace there cars every 3 years or so over there. #3 1999 was only 11 years ago. #4 Classic cars need to be 25 years old and driven on special licence plates. #5 Nissan R-34 will not meet the necessary emisions and safety standards. #6 Several government agencys Customs, National Traffic Safety Agency, EPA, DOT and you will have to post bond for the value of the car and have it converted and tested. Several importers have gone out of business accidentally driving non converted cars around. Converted cars have less power.
