Do all Manual Transmission 2006 Nissan 350z's burn oil? (Oil Consumption issue)?
-
I found a really good deal on a 2006 nissan 350z with only 12,000 miles. Its M/T, but around the internet I kept hearing about the OIL CONSUMPTION issue with the car. What percentage of 2006 M/T 350z's actually have this problem? Is it only a certain period of manufacture date that has this problem? for example I heard that if you got the car manufactured from February 2006- May 2006, then you might have the problem. You guys think i should buy it?

Answer:
I work at a Nissan dealer and never heard of any manual trans with a oil consumption issue. Sounds to me you got a leak or crack in tranny.. take to a tranny shop and have inspected. but I have heard of engines that have oil consumption issues but keep in mind with most car makers there is an allowable amount of oil that can be lost between oil changes and some can be 1-3 qts depending on the car maker. to properly perform an oil consumption test on engine do the following, but make sure the engine has no oil leaks that are visiable. check thoroughly. A) do a oil change and fill to proper level B) drive car and check oil level ever 1000 miles and take note of amount of loss up to the 3,750 interval reccomended by Nissan per owners manual. C) once you do this then compare with Nissan to confirm what the alllowable amount of oil loss is acceptable. I am pretty sure .5 - 1.3 is allowable and considered normal.

Some not all 2006 350Z do use oil. Most time you can tell the oil is blacker than normal sooner. And looking inside the motor from the filler cap everything inside the motor is also black. This is why you have the car checked our before money changes hands. Good Luck

There should be no problem here. It sounds like it needs some minor repair/adjusting. Go to 350z.com and ask in their forums. Most of the users are owners/mechanics. I have a 2005 350z 35th Anniversary Edition 6MT, no problems in 2 years.

I never heard of this issue. I have driven many Z's and my friend has had one for the past 3 years with no problems. Go ahead and buy one. It is a fun car. Just don't try to drive it in snow and drive slow in rain.
