Cruise control won't work?

Nissan experts need your help, cruise control on 2001 maxima won't work after....?

  • ok i had to replace my front wheel hubs so when i took them off i had to replace the ABS speed sensors too coz they cracked when I tried to take them off. so my car ran w/o front abs sensors for about 6mo's. but the funny thing is i tested the cruise control w/o the abs sensors the day before i bought he new abs sensors and installed them and funny thing it worked i thought it won't w/o the sensors. well i replaced the abs sensors both OEM and the abs works the lights cleared out after installing them. but now the cruise control won't work. when i press the cruise control on/off switch the green "Cruise" light comes up on the dash but when i hit the accel or "coast set" button nothing happens. so any idea what is wrong with it? thanks in advance

You might have damaged the wiring of the wheel speed sensor while working on your car. If the ECU can't read or detect the speed of your car, the cruise control isn't going to work. i would check and clean wheel speed sensor wiring connector. Check fuse(s) and relays. Replace the sensor and/or wiring if necessary. Also check the cruise control vacuum assembly and diaphragm(HOPE YOU KNOW WHAT AND WHERE THEY ARE) located under the hood. I fixed the auto-cruise control on my car yesterday. I damaged( dented )the cover of vacuum diaphragm while installing the front upper strut bar. I repalced the the cover , now the cruise control works.

Shouldn't be related to the ABS but you might have got tangled in or broke a wire affecting the cruise. Retrace your working area. See nothing then get the schematic and see if there's a relay on your front fender well left or right that's anything to do with cruise. Of course you've checked the fuses. IF there's a relay, it's probably one of several similar relays on your fender well under your hood of course. Swap it out and see if it's twin brother works for your cruise. I'd say that the problem has to do with your working on the vehicle and a careful visual inspection might show the problerm. Thorough and careful. Also, there's a low speed limit that your cruise just won't work beneath.
