Is a 2005-2006 Nissan Altima a good car?

Why am I having a minor car starting issue with my 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5?

  • I purchased a 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5 about two months ago. The car runs excellent and it only has 63,000 miles on it. However, maybe once a week the car acts like it doesn't want to start then it starts. The battery is new, the altenator is good, the starter is good, and there is no check engine light or any other light on in the car. I have been using 87 gasoline since i had the car. Inside the cars manual it says that 87 octane or higher gas should be used. Then in parenthesis it says (Research octane rating 91), i guess that suggest 91 should be used and/or is better. Why does my car hesistate to start once in a while??? Could it be the gas that i'm using (the engine is only a four cylinder) or what else could it be???? I did a car fax on the car and it only had two owners who leased the car from the Nissan dealership. I went on Edmonds.com to see the consumer reviews and the car has 4 and a half stars out of 5. Two people did mention something about electrical problems they were having and said that their car didn't start at all sometimes. One lady said this and her car only has 32,000 miles on it. She also stated that nobody could figure out the problem with the car not starting so she got rid of it. I looked for recalls on the car and there is no recall for statting problems. There were only two peole out of 200+ people who said that they had starting problems. What is going on???????

  • Answer:

You ask WHY? The why a car is not working properly can only be provided by a certified Nissan mechanic that can do some testing and some trouble shooting on this car to find the WHY this car is having problems. Asking here is nice and people shall do their best to help you. However, that is still guessing. Do not guess. Take any information from here if you like but this car needs a mechanic's attention so the car shall be repaired properly. OK? Good luck and best wishes.By the way, the way you have approached this problem and the research is absolutely great and unique. Well done! Now, get on the phone and make that appointment.

It's probably the CRANK or CAM positioning sensor. It's a common issue- just call Nissan and ask for the parts guy- ask him which parts he orders the most for that car. I did, he told me, I replaced it and the same problem you are having went away instantly. It can be either sensor but I started with the Crank one and that was it.
